Julia Rose
Your Business name:
Flowers by Julia Rose
Your Location: Gold Coast/Byron Bay, Australia
How did you start your business?
I started in a room in my house. Just little old me along side a floral fridge, a bench and a bucket full of creativity. Oh & an enormous amount of Passion for flowers. I truly just LOVE working with flowers, passion is my driving force.
How many years have you been in business?
My business has been running for roughly 10 years now.
It is an absolute joy to be able to say that it has reached the point where clients approach me with a budget & a colour palette and trust in my creativity skills to transform their events, bring their media campaign to life or Wow their Runways & Red carpets.
How do you create your style and where do you draw your inspiration?
Working with flowers I would have to say my #1 influence would have to be Nature really, it’s that plan & simple. Who can create anything more perfect then mother nature herself?
So I am inspired by walking through the bush, seeing a tree with vines twisting to the skies, moss growing in shadowed branches, fields of fresh flowers, driftwood along our beautiful shorelines & sunsets painted into the evening skies.
As far as influences in ‘mankind’ go, I love ‘Albert Einstein’ as his words inspire me. I must say I do also take inspiration from ‘old world art’ the greats, paintings that are classic & evoke emotion, tell a story and have a certain romance to them.
….and colour, I love colour! Color can create a stunning visual impact & stir emotion.
What are the trends, flowers & colors that are unique to your region?
Wedding wise I find that a natural organic look with a designers edge, so ‘Bohemian Luxe’, Natural with a sense of antiquity and Romance.
I find the flowers are a very personal aspect to my brides and we design them to suit their overall feel to the day, happy, free, vintage, rustic, formal, romantic however LUSH and full with lots of texture and movement seems to be the one design aspect that flows strong.
Designer and Runway wise – Bold & Glamourous. Statement pieces.
Fresh floral installations!! They are in trend in every aspect…Weddings, Events, Media Campaigns, Fashion photoshoots.. Fresh flower Installations are all the trend.
Which Social Media platform is your favorite and why?
I find I enjoy different platforms at different times. I would say Facebook and Instagram probably are my top 2.
With Facebook my followers like to hear “The Story” behind the creation, I always tend to post cleaner professional photos on Facebook.
Where as Instagram its more so just the photo that does the talking. So a lot of onsite behind the scenes shots followed up with the final piece.
What is your favorite part of being a floral designer?
The simple answer is “I just love playing with flowers!” More in-depth answer would be ..
..Weddings – The pleasure of Bringing to life the overall look and feel of a couple to their family and loved ones through flowers, transforming the space to represent them. Tailoring designs to each bride in every aspect, I LOVE all the nitty gritty details to bring her vision to life. I really do love being part of someones special day in such a wonderful way.
Campaigns – The Pride of representing someones brand with the utmost designer care, people are very protective of their ‘branding’ so I love the fact that I have been commissioned to create something unique to launch new season labels, campaigns etc. Again its the details and the freedom to create wild visual pieces that impact people!
Runways & Avante garde- The chance to let my imagination run wild and create astonishing pieces, having people look into the piece and be able to see my passion and share the Joy of the floral creation.
What advice would you give to aspiring floral designers?
Create with passion and people will see it in your designs.
I am a teacher of floral design, I find the basics never fail, basic design aspects run strong through all levels of floristry.
Never be too proud to stop taking on new skills, I learn all of the time from not only accomplished designers but beginners in the field. New little tricks or better ways of doing something, Evolve with the trade.
What tool in your toolbox can’t you live without?
My Floral scissors, I literally have a pair in my car, my dads car, my partners car and my hand bag at most times, you just never know when they might come in handy.
What’s your favorite flower?
Asking my favourite flower would be like asking a parent to choose their favourite child, I just love them all. Each one is beautiful in their own way.
