Ninth Moon Floral Design Showcase is a floral show hosted by Lan Su Chinese Gardens and Floral Design Institute in Portland, Oregon every November. This year Leanne Kesler of Floral Design Institute invited me to be one of three judges for the Floral Design Competition, of course I said yes! I find being a judge to be a great challenge and fascinating experience. The three of us judges work independently during a three hour window, studying all 23 floral design entries closely and scoring them on 10 Concepts they must present. In other words, we do not judge them against each other, but each one is scored on 10 concepts on their own accord. A few of the concepts include: Mechanics, Balance, Creativity, Line, etc.
I do take the assignment very seriously and do toil over each entry I note on my scorecard for each arrangement – knowing that on the other side there is a floral designer that worked very hard to create the design.
I share with you now the entries for this year’s Ninth Moon Floral Design Showcase, enjoy ~
It was an honour to have you as a guest judge for one of my favourite events of the year! Thank you for sharing your experience with your viewers. Cheers!!
