Flirty Fleurs Intensive 4 day Wedding Workshop 1.29.19-2.01.2019

I jumped at the chance to sign up for Alicia Schwede’s Wedding Intensive Workshop the minute I received the informational email! My floral business is mainly wedding work and I was trained many years ago. This was my chance to learn new mechanics and new design skills.

I had taken a prior Bouquet & Compote class from Alicia a few years ago and was so inspired by her vision and teaching skills, that I knew I needed to take another class in the future.

This workshop blew me away! Not only with the content that was going to covered but knowing the class size was going to be small, meant it was going to be very hands on! The class was paced for any level of skill!

Alicia and her assistant, Keita, gave us all the confidence to design what was in our hearts but also, to not be hesitant to try new things! The skills and mechanics that I learned are forever engraved in my mind! Each day was planned with things to cover and paced perfectly! The flowers that we had available for designing was incredible!

My only disappointment is that it went by so fast! Our group just clicked with each other! Laughter, encouragement and support was a common thread every day! I will miss these ladies very much!

I highly recommend taking a class from Alicia Schwede @FlirtyFleurs! Whether a few hours or a few days! You will come out of it inspired, energized and excited to try out your new found skills!

Happy Flowering! 🌸

Alicia’a floral design classes are invaluable! I took her Dahlia Compote class in August and her Arch and Chuppah class in September. Both classes were hands-on, informative, and fun!
The compote class had six students, ranging from beginners to designers with previous floral experience. Alicia explained each step of the mechanics and gave us time to complete each step on our own compotes before moving on. She also gave us lots of different ideas for style and design and helped us put our individual visions. The selection of flowers at the compote class was great – lot of dahlias, of course, and many other gorgeous, seasonal blooms.

The arch and chuppah class exceeded all of my wildest expectations! There were only four students in the class. We met for a full day and designed two arches and two chuppas. Each of the designs relied on different mechanics, so in total we learned four different ways of adorning arches with flowers. Each of arches had a different design and color palette so we got experience with a wide array of designs. The class was hands-on and active; up and down step ladders, standing back to look at the progress, adding more stems, etc. I’ve created two arches since the class and have drawn upon Alicia’s teaching and guidance in creating both.

Alicia is a patient and kind teacher. She gives her students the opportunity to experiment and make mistakes, and provides guidance on different ways of achieving the desired design. One of the most valuable parts about Alicia’s classes is that she is open and transparent about the business side of floral design. For each of the arches/chuppas we designed, she taught us about how she chose the flowers and foliage, the ordering process, and the price she’d charge if she was creating the arch for a customer. She also let us pepper her with questions all day long and provided honest, thorough answers.

I wholeheartedly recommend Alicia’s classes for both experienced designers and beginners. I left Alicia’s classes feeling confident, inspired, and like I’d made a friend and mentor.

I have taken two classes from Alicia and I’m looking forward to taking more. I learned so much and I loved meeting other flower enthusiasts. Alicia is both a professional and an excellent teacher. She is very accepting of different levels of ability and structures the class to meet everyone’s needs. Her classes are small, allowing her to work hands-on and give individual attention to each student. I came home with great handouts and beautiful flowers. You will leave her class feeling inspired and valued.

I heard about Alicia’s four day wedding intensive by following Flirty Fleurs on Instagram. I debated for several weeks about traveling across the country to attend, but I decided to go for it. It was a great four days of learning how to create all of the important wedding florals, plus education on purchasing flowers and dealing with wholesalers and pricing and other business aspects of weddings. I’m so glad I made the trip. The small group size allowed Alicia and Keita to be immediately available to help and critique our designs. I would highly recommend the class to anyone interested in learning about wedding florals!

Alicia Schwede is one of the best instructors that I have come across. When I first started to look for a floral workshop and asked for recommendations, Alicia’s name kept coming up, so I signed up for one of her classes and was so impressed by her floral knowledge, her design skills, and her teaching ability.
