Musings of a Florist :: visit flirty fleurs on Tuesdays and read a variety of musings by me – Alicia Schwede, editor of the blog.

I’ll be sharing some thoughts of what I’ve learned, what I would do differently, and what I’m thankful for on this flower filled journey I’ve been on since 1998.

5 Year Plan
One of the most common questions I heard when I was nearing the end of college was – What is your 5 year plan? Such a serious question and my friends and I would all rattle off a long list for this 5 year plan. Well, if I’ve learned one lesson in my years since that time – life rarely goes as we plan, what we think should happen, what we expect. It’s more like a zig-zag line that can move you around the country/world, boyfriends come and go, jobs change, careers are dropped and becoming a florist happens! And the hardest part of all, some of those friends we were making plans with pass away at an all too young of an age.

Somewhere along the way I dropped the idea of a 5 year plan and the word resolutions. I adopted the word ‘Goals’ long ago. It’s easier on the soul – make a list of goals, of ideas I’d like to achieve or experience. Sometimes those goals take awhile to come to fruition, sometimes the form changes a bit from the original visions – and sometimes something turns out even better than you had wished for!
So there you have it – be easier on yourself and write out a list of goals and stop trying to plan every minute of the next 5 years. .
