Hi there, My name is Chuck Graham and I am the Lead Designer and Owner of Blume Haus Floral Design Studio here in Denver. Alicia and Andrea approached me about 4 weeks ago and asked me if I would like to be a guest blogger for Flirtyfleurs.com and I took about 3.4 seconds to think about it and said “Absolutely!!!” Then they asked me what I would like to blog about. That was a little more difficult to answer but that night while watching Logo’s new television show “The Arrangement” it came to me, why not see if I could get an interview with a couple of the designers on the show. So I sent out a couple of emails and about 4 hours later I was on the phone the media team for MTV, VH1, and Logo. WOW!!!! My head was spinning, I thought this was going to take weeks for me to track down the designers, ask the question, type up the interviews, collect pictures and get them posted. Not the case. Jake and the team at VH1 had me in contact with all 10 designers the next day, a library of stock photos from the show and the answers to my questions. So without Jake’s help this series of interviews could not have been possible. Thank you so much Jake.
Okay now about the show. “The Arrangement” is a floral design reality competition show. The format of the show is not the most original but is the 1st series to be solely devoted to the art of floral design, which whatever your opinion on the skill set and talent of the designers on the 1st season, it is an awesome thing for the industry. The more we can, on any level educate the population, the better for us as floral designers. The series started out with 10 designers from around the country, The majority of the designers are based out of Southern California. At this point I hope you have had the chance to read each of the interviews, if you have not yet, take a few minutes and check them out.
The ten designers on the first season come from all different backgrounds. Gloria, who was eliminated in the second episode was a Cook County Sheriff prior to becoming a florist, Eddie is the florist to the stars of Hollywood, Tara has been in the industry for 31 years and Bonnie has only been designing for 12 weeks. Each designer has different personal and artistic styles. Tenley has a punk, raw style while Jenny is much more girly and playful.
The designers were put through several challenges that included underwater design, using flowers from the dumpster, funeral pieces for reality T.V. Star Omarosa, creating fashion hats, and wrapping a Smart Car in flowers. Each episode started with a “Seedling” challenge which the designers were usually give 30 minutes to create a smaller arrangement with some sort of twist. The winner of this challenge was given an advantage in the “Weed Out” Challenge. The second challenge is where the designers were put to the test and is what ultimately decided the winner and the designer that would be sent home. After 7 episodes of drama, tears, lots of flowers and celebrity guest judges, there are 3 designers left in “The Arrangement” and the final design show down air on Logo on December 1st. If you missed any episode you can watch them at Logotv.com or download the season from iTunes.
So tell us who you think the winner of the first season of “The Arrangement” will be?
PS- Chuck has secured an interview with the winner. We look forward to posting the interview shortly after the winner is announced. Thank you, Chuck, for all of your hard work on this project. We’ve really enjoyed reading all of the interviews and getting to know the cast of The Arrangement!!
