Chrysanthemums are currently on display at Lan Su Chinese Garden in Portland, Oregon.
They have nicknamed the month of November – MUMvember – as they celebrate with 750 potted chrysanthemums in all shapes, sizes & colors artistically displayed throughout the garden.
I enjoyed a peaceful stroll through the gardens after the finishing of judging duties of the Ninth Moon Floral Design Show. Actually, I took a few loops around the garden to make sure I didn’t miss any of the mums and had a nice chat with the garden’s horticulturist, Mandi. She shared with me that they start the process of growing the mums 9 months prior to MUMvember in a greenhouse located off-property. They have well over 1,000 mums growing back at the greenhouse which gives them plenty of options to switch out plants throughout the blooming cycle in November – this way visitors to the garden will always have flowers to view.
