flirty fleurs floral industry blog

I’m back from a whirlwind 4 day trip to NYC, wow, what a great time!
I took off on a red-eye at 1am on Sunday morning. Landed in NYC at 6:30am and in typical Alicia fashion I figured taking the subway to the hotel would be fun. I was amused, even with the construction on the line which caused me to get off on 34th and walk w/ suitcase in tow to 26th in the rain. I didn’t mind, the rain was nice. 🙂
The first thing I did was look at the flower district on 28th. (You can say it, I’m a flower nerd!!)

And I realized that the Martha Stewart studios were practically across the street from our hotel, perfect since we were going there on Tuesday for at taping!

The reason I opted for the early flight was for a personal reason, my brother lives in MA and I was thrilled to pieces that he drove into the city w/ his two children to spend the day with me. He arrived soon after I did and we were off for a day of strolling about the city, me catching up w/ the kids and hearing about all their latest activities.

We had a lovely visit and I was sad when it was time for them to leave. Luckily for me, when I walked in the door of the hotel I was greeted my a bunch of Chapel Designer who had just arrived! Hugs to Holly & Cori and meeting a whole bunch of other wonderful ladies. I could feel the excitement in the air (luckily since I had tears in my eyes from saying goodbye to the family!!). It was time to get down to business.
Cori used to live in Denver and moved home to Chicago last summer, we had so much to catch up on!! We were chit-chatting away! Everyone up to their rooms to get situated and then we were off to grab dinner together at a local pizza joint. You can view pictures of that outing on Holly Chapple’s blog taken by photographer Vicki Grafton from My Simple Details.
Back to our hotel where we all set in the bar/restaurant, everyone getting to know each other and talking flower business.
Great start to a great few days together!

I will be posting each “segment” of our trip into it’s own post. Please check back from posts about our visit to the NYC flower district, class w/ David Beahm, taping of the Martha Stewart show, visit to Ovando’s uptown boutique, shopping on the streets of NYC. Really we fit so much into our time there.
I’m so thankful to all the wonderful women I met on this trip. Thank you, Holly, for bringing us all together!
