Musings of a Florist :: visit flirty fleurs on Tuesdays and read a variety of musings by me – Alicia Schwede, editor of the blog.
I’ll be sharing some thoughts of what I’ve learned, what I would do differently, and what I’m thankful for on this flower filled journey I’ve been on since 1998.
Learning
Never stop learning, always stay curious, always push yourself out of comfort zones. Yes, I teach a lot of floral design classes, but I also attend classes as a student – because there is always something new to learn. As you can all see I enjoy a garden design look, yet the classes I’ll take? Ikebana – the Japanese art of floral design. Ikebana forces one to slow down and really look at a flower or branch and placement. Can’t hide when am arrangement only has 3 elements!
I also recommend taking classes with @francoiseweeks who taught me to look at every leaf and texture or with @hitomigilliam who is the master of mechanics! The list is long of instructors to learn from – perhaps set the goal of learning from an instructor who teaches something outside of your wheelhouse for 2020.
