How did you start your business?
My very first job at age sixteen was in a florist. I mostly swept the
floors, cleaned buckets, and did other random tasks. Over time I began to pick up skills and develop a
love of flowers. I continued working in the floral industry through college, graduate school, and so on
and so on (about 20 years!). My education is in horticulture, but my passion is in design…this is how
Amy Lynne Originals came to be.
How many years have you been in business? Five
What is your design aesthetic?
I like the unexpected. I think it is a huge compliment when someone
says “I never would have thought to put those two things together”.
How do you create your style and where do you draw your inspiration?
I suppose I get a lot of inspiration from blogs…I can lose hours getting engrossed in them. However, my favorite place to find inspiration is from fabric. I become inspired by the color combinations, patterns, and even textures. Oh how I love a fabric store!
What are the trends, flowers & colors that are unique to your region?
Being in the south, the whole rustic elegance trend is ongoing. If I see one more mason jar I may lose my mind, however I try to embrace this continuing trend and put a new twist on it whenever I can.
Are you a retail shop, studio/warehouse or home based?
I have a design studio with a storefront. I suppose I could be called a retail shop; however I design mostly for special events and then occasionally offer workshops and have a corsage bar.
Do you offer any services in addition to floral designs?
No…I stick to what I am good at!
How do you balance the desires of a modern bride when purse strings rest on the shoulders of
I believe that being open about the floral budget from the beginning is the key to
keeping a balance. This is the only way to give the bride the flowers she desires and make sure there
are no financial surprises for the parents.
What tool in your toolbox can’t you live without?
Glue dots – they rock! Not sure how I existed before the invention of glue dots.
What’s your favorite flower?
Anything else you’d like to share with Flirty Fleurs followers?
I believe that my creativity is a gift from God. I feel so blessed to be able to share my gift with so many.
