Chuck introduced me to Flower School NY awhile back and ever since I have paid attention to their class schedule, when the Chapel Designers started planning this trip I crossed my fingers and hoped a class with Ariella could be in the mix. Thankfully, wishes do come true!!
I am thrilled I was able to take a class with Ariella and meet Eileen & Cal of Flower School NY, what a lovely treat.
Ariella gave two classes, one about bridal bouquets and one about designing in a compote. I took the compote class, it was quite interesting to try out this looser style – talk about letting go.
I know what most of you are thinking- Alicia, you live in Colorado, isn’t the style loose and wild? Oddly enough when I meet with brides they rarely want any greenery in their designs – just blooms, blooms, blooms. It is surprising, I agree, especially since I could sell aspen bark covered containers just about every day of the year with a serving of pinecones and moss on the side … but no loose greenery?? I think a few more photos of designs like this will end up on the Bella Fiori Blog and we’ll see if some clients might be attracted to this natural and organic style. ok, ok, back to the class…
The class started with Ariella chatting a bit about her background and describing how she designs. She started with her compote container with a frog. Wow, frogs, yea those take some getting used to. Slowly the class started to attempt their own designs with a base of greenery then adding in the flowers, the flowers started at the base and swirled up towards the top of the design.
What do you think? Fun, right?! I love taking classes and learning from others – so inspiring.
Here are some other photos from the day:
Be sure to check back later today as Chuck will be posting about his experience with the class.
