Musings of a Florist :: visit flirty fleurs on Tuesdays and read a variety of musings by me – Alicia Schwede, editor of the blog.

I’ll be sharing some thoughts of what I’ve learned, what I would do differently, and what I’m thankful for on this flower filled journey I’ve been on since 1998.

Technology
Isn’t technology and being connected 24/7 a fascinating thing?
Honestly, I’m glad I grew up before social media existed and can still put the phone down and be in the moment. That got me to thinking though how it has all changed over the years. I built my first flower website back around 1999, one of the first florists in the area to have one. I worked at a software company and maintaining the company website was one of my projects. That skill sure helped out when I wanted to dabble in flowers part time and needed to get my name out there. Next came blogs, the @bellafiori blog on Blogger started in March of 2007 – it’s still out there and holding many old memories like a well worn journal. Flirty Fleurs blog was launched in May 2010 – I had been adding lots of floral industry news onto the Bella Fiori blog and it was time to separate industry musings from my flower business and start a dedicated floral industry blog. 2009 was all about Twitter and it was there where the bigger flower world started to open up – I met Alex of Exquisite Events, Holly Chapple, and Jenn of Modern Day Floral Events and many more! 2012 @chuckgrahamfd started the facebook page for Flirty Fleurs. Also, a new social media platform emerged and I started posting slowly for both @flirtyfleurs and @bellafiori – it’s called Instagram 😉
Interesting to think that out of the various social media platforms instagram held the power and strength and is still goes strong. 2009-2012 Twitter was everything!
I wonder what will be next…
