Thank you to my good friend, Nil Soucek of Splendor for writing this wonderful article about visioning your goals. Nil has been a wonderful inspiration for me and for helping me to create a vision board of my own.
When my friend and fabulous floral designer, Alicia Schwede of Bella Fiori, asked me to write an article about visioning, I was thrilled. It’s one of my favorite topics because it’s so exciting to watch someone create the life they want. As much as I believe in the power of visioning and the law of attraction, I didn’t realize how quickly I’d have a real-life example to share, but I’ll get back to that.
Although this practice has been used by thousands of people throughout history, it’s not often taught or even discussed in mainstream America. I was introduced to this concept when I was building a business in my late 20s. My mentors showed me how to use this tool to stay focused on my goals and achieve success. Despite their help, I didn’t understand the true power of visioning and intention until a few years later. Though it seems like a simple process, it actually takes a little practice and focus to learn how to strengthen this ability. Thanks to my coach, Debbie Scott with Achievement Dynamics, I’ve learned to live my life through my visions, creating everything I want. It’s a really fun way to live and I can’t wait to help you learn. I’ll provide a few simple steps and tips to making your visioning successful.
1. Know What You Want
2. Picture it Every Day
3. Build Your Belief
4. Take Action
KNOW WHAT YOU WANT
First, let’s talk about the definition of visioning. It is simply determining what you want; envisioning it as if it has already happened; and staying in that feeling of excitement, trust, belief, and expectancy. Any sort of doubt, fear, or questioning will basically null any attempt to create through visioning. In other words, you must truly desire and believe in your vision. You may think you want something (house, baby, trim body, new job), but you may actually be stopping yourself subconsciously if you’re not manifesting it. When you’re in a place of true desire and belief, your visions will manifest quickly and easily, often leaving you in awe. It’s absolutely incredible.
PICTURE IT EVERY DAY
Once you are clear about what you want, you can make a vision board that has photos, drawings, and other symbols of what you want. I like to search the Internet for images, but a lot of people cut pictures out of magazines. Just make sure to be specific about the photos you include. If you want a certain car, try to find the exact make, model, and color. If you want to grow your business, specify the percentage of growth, annual revenue goal, and even the ideal clients you want to serve. This tool is so powerful that I’ve manifested exactly what was on my board, down to the type of beach umbrellas at a resort where we stayed! When you’re finished, hang the board where you’ll see it every day.
BUILD YOUR BELIEF
As I mentioned before, you must believe in the possibility of your vision or you’ll be counteracting any progress. If you decide that you want to live in a certain house, but you find yourself thinking, “I’ll never be able to live there. What am I thinking? I don’t make enough. My business needs to double in order to have the money to get it. What am I, crazy? Ugh…” you’ll never manifest that home. You won’t see opportunities to grow your income or meet the right people and you might even sabotage your own efforts without realizing it. I find that building your belief is even more powerful than having the actual vision. In order to get to the feeling of confidence and expectancy, you might want to write positive thoughts in a journal, share your vision with supportive friends, or meditate. Sometimes, it’s just timing. Despite how much you want the vision, you won’t be ready to receive it until your belief matches your intention.
Most importantly, take action. Determine the steps you can take to get closer to your vision and take some action. When you take that action, know that it may not immediately create the result, but it may take you one step closer. Follow your intuition and change your course, if necessary. If roadblocks keep appearing, re-evaluate the path you’re taking. Maybe there are signs that you should consider other avenues to your goal. Be flexible! Your purpose is to stay focused and energized about what you want. The universe will figure out how it will come to fruition.
As I mentioned earlier, I have a real-life example to explain how this works. Last year, when I started my company, Splendor, I decided that I wanted to be mentioned in the popular wedding magazine, The Knot. I cut out The Knot’s logo and put it on my vision board, located across from my desk. I came up with some action items for the business, including networking, social media marketing, and bridal shows. One day, I was inspired to follow The Knot and its CEO, Carly Roney on Twitter. Soon, they followed me back. I fostered relationships with the best wedding professionals in Colorado, seeing how I could help them grow their businesses. One day, incredible wedding planner, Debbie Orwat of Save the Date Events, mentioned Splendor (formerly Adorn) to The Knot during an interview. That was the first time we appeared in the magazine. A few months later, she said that she mentioned us again.
As I was in the shower this morning, I was thinking, “It was so wonderful for Debbie to comment on our company. She’s so supportive. I really appreciate her help. Wouldn’t it be great to have an entire article about Splendor in The Knot? I know it will happen.” Meanwhile, I missed a call. I listened to the voicemail and was thrilled to hear that it was a person from The Knot. They were calling to verify some information for a small piece they were writing on our company. I couldn’t believe it. As I thought the words, the phone was ringing in the other room. Although this type of manifestation happens in my life quite a bit now, each time leaves me in awe.
What I’ve learned through my journey is to have fun and trust and enjoy the process every day. I hope this helps you create a life that brings you much joy, health, and peace.
