Recently I sent out a twitter request & email to our mailing list, asking for input on five different questions. Thank you to everyone who sent in their replies!!
We would love to see how you store all your ribbons! We all know how hard they can be to keep organized. Send us pictures of your storage solution!
I’ll start this post off by showing how I stored ribbons at my studio. I used racks purchased at Lowe’s for a good price and hung them up on one of the walls. Brides loved it! I loved that I could see exactly what I had in inventory and not over buy the same ribbon..
Ok, so, ribbon storage: I completely gave up on organizing the little bits of antique lace I’ve collected, and now keep it in a huge footed fish bowl…like a big bucket of spaghetti. My non-holiday ribbon is stored on an old wooden shelf that has 2 drawers for all of my boutonniere/corsage making supplies. It’s nice to have it all in one place.

I love ribbon and have way too much – I might be a bit of a ribbon hoarder! I re-purpose vintage items to hold ribbon, like the paper cutter and use bolts of it to decorate my studio. My best find for ribbon storage was when I updated my closet organizer and was left with the old plastic coated wire shelving – my wonderful husband (big strong man that he is!) turned the shelves upside down, bent them in half lengthwise and then cut them to size and mounted them on the side of cupboard. Perfect for holding ribbon and can be cut to any length! I have them mounted all over the studio now – anywhere I had a little extra room.

I found this old vanity cabinet at a yard sale for $10. It is situated on a ledge in my studio, which worked great-it put good use an awkard space and the height is just perfect for viewing and selecting ribbon.
I love ribbons, but concentrate on vintage finds. I love to hunt on etsy and find great ones. Antique lace remnants and even and antique sari (shown in picture 2-top left) are treasured finds for bouquet wraps! I store my collection of vintage and vintage-inspired pins here too-great for adding a special touch to bouquets.

Currently I store ribbons in two places, a unit from Pottery Barn and a Pantry Cupboard.

This is from Pottery Barn:
This is ribbon that is on every design that leaves the studio. The base is from an old floor lamp.
This is a pantry cupboard that works great:
I use an over the door storage rack thing I picked up at Target!

I fold my ribbon in a figure eight and keep it flat in a drawer. It is easy to see what you have at a glance and it can be used without the possibility of the entire roll unwinding. Just tuck the ribbon from the inside end out. The loops will unwind without tangling and there will be no fold lines in your ribbon.

This is just a small section of our ribbon storage. We’re a busy shop, always adding and taking ribbon from these racks, and it never stays as neat as we’d like. This is an honest picture!
