Last June I wrote a post about realistic pricing and the responses & discussion that ensued were quite interesting. We’ve decided to give it another go around…
What would you charge for this arrangement?
15 white Hawaiian dendrobium orchids
9 white South American hydrangea
7 white peonies
9 white stock
12 white polo roses
5 hybrid white delphinium
9 white Thailand (Bangkok) orchids
1 Cymbidium inside the vase
Glass vase is a rental item.
Remember mechanics, lomey dish & foam.
Here are the responses:
Chicago, IL – Alex of Exquisite Designs in responded with $350.
Denver, CO – Amy of The Flower House priced it at $550 and that is assuming this is with peonies in season as peonies out of season in Colorado are considerably more expensive.
Virginia – Holly of Holly Heider Chapple flowers created this arrangement for one of the weddings she designed. The cost was $375.
Oregon – Peggy & Carol of Celebrations Florals responded with $400, the price would range depending on season and what is available locally versus imported.
Minneapolis/St. Paul MN & Western Wisconsin – Dani of Studio Fleurette responded with $400.
Indiana – Carolyn of Lavender Hill Florals priced this piece at $450.
New Braunfels, TX – Sheri of Blumen Meisters responded with $832.
Now I realize many of you are looking at Sheri’s price and wondering why her flowers are close to twice as much as the other quotes. I decided to try the exercise myself and price it out, I came up with $750 which is much closer to Sheri’s price. Sheri and I had a few conversations about pricing and what it comes down to is location and how far the flowers have to be transported.
San Francisco, CA – Nancy of Nancy Liu Chin Designs responded with $400.
The emails I shared with these designers were so interesting. I can see a forum on this in our futures so we can share and learn more from each other. Most designers asked how others work in costs for delivery, setup, taxes, and service charges.
What are your thoughts? Do you agree with these prices? Would you price the same, higher or lower?
— one thing I should mention, I did have an error in the original recipe I sent to the designers. Holly actually used a dendrobrium orchid inside the vase and I wrote it as a cymbidium orchid, just in case anyone can see the difference–
