Your name: Lesley Frascogna
Your Business name: Tulip
Your Location: The Tulip Studio is located in Jackson, MS, but we LOVE to travel!
How did you start your business?
I have always been fascinated with the floral world, so I found a shop
in Chicago (my home town) that would take me on. I knew nothing and they took me under their wing
and began teaching me. Of course I started by washing buckets, sweeping the floor, and processing, but
it was all part of it. I fell in love! About a year later, I found a shop for sale and bought it. I remember
thinking to myself that first day I was there alone, “what did I just do?” I tend to jump into things
without thinking them through. Well… I did it! I ran a successful shop in Chicago for three years before
meeting my husband and moving back to his hometown in Jackson, MS. I knew right away I wanted to
focus on weddings and not have a retail shop. Tulip was born in Fall 2008 and it’s been blooming ever
since (was that just totally cheesy?)!
What is your design aesthetic?
Depends on my mood….. it changes all the time. I had to
sum it up I would say modern, classic, and eclectic all wrapped into one great floral piece!
What inspires you?
Everything … nature, flowers, textiles, interior design, and wedding blogs to name a
few. I also find daily inspiration and motivation from all of the other talented designers in the industry.
What are the trends, flowers & colors that are unique to your region?
Nothing too unique, the market in Jackson is still very traditional. I am really trying hard to get my Brides to think outside of the box and
do something different. I think this is my season!
Are you a retail shop, studio/warehouse or home based?
I have a studio that I work out of and I am only
open by appointment. I love my Studio!
Do you offer any services in addition to floral designs?
Why yes I do! Tulip can assist with all aspects of design for events. I also offer custom table runners, pillows, aisle runners, and ceremony backdrops.
Private one on one and group classes are one of my favorite things to do in the off season.
What does your toolbox look like?
A mess! I swear I organize that thing twice a day. It has everything from my essential everyday floral tools to emergency items for the bride and gum of course! Don’t want coffee breath while I’m pinning on boutonnieres.
What tool in your toolbox can’t you live without?
My floral knife… I have withdraws when we are apart for too long.
What’s your favorite flower?
My favorite changes with the season, but I will always love roses….
especially garden roses! They are just so classic and romantic and don’t think I could live without them.
Anything else you’d like to share with Flirty Fleurs followers?
Flowers rock! I feel so lucky to have found my passion in life and it makes me happy to share it with the people around me every day!
Thanks for letting me share on your blog!
