flirty fleurs floral industry blog

Your name: Daniela Isabella Ferdico Fagét
Your Business name: Bella Signature Design (Full event design) Bloom by Bella (floral only) and Varmala (Indian/cultural weddings)
Your Location: Seattle

How did you start your business?
Determination and hard work – I worked in the hospitality industry while in college and graduate school while earnign a Ph.D, and just fell in love with flowers and design, and found that my creative side just couldn’t be squashed.

What is your design aesthetic?
Modern Lush (I like the simplicity of modern, I love color blocking, and playing with varying color hues, but prefer lush booms over something entirely stark.)

What inspires you?
mostly people – my clients, my friends. Nature, textiles. I can be inspired by the flecks of a rock in the forest, the inside of a shell my daughter found on the beach, or a persimmon in the grocery store. It’s usually quite random. I usually go to bed thinking about a certain design element I am trying to create, and wake up at 3am with design ideas!

What are the trends, flowers & colors that are unique to your region?
People in Seattle tend towards ‘natural elegance.’ Although we definitely see a bunch of ‘bling’, it’s usually real crystals hanging from a coll branch, versus a plastic crystal entirely covering a bouquet. The emphasis on natural yet lush beauty, and emphasizing it with something glamourous. We get everything from very organic inspired (say a table scape of moss and rocks with apothecary jars of a few poppies and fern curls) to lush, over the top roses, hydrangea and cascading orchids). Tulips are local here, as are hydrangea and dahlias, so those are big when their season hits.

Are you a retail shop, studio/warehouse or home based?
Studio plus warehouse

Do you offer any services in addition to floral designs?
Yes, our main company, Bella Signature Design, offers full event design, from table linens, fabric draping and lighting.

What does your toolbox look like?
Ah, my poor assistant always has to clean it out after each wedding! I use both a toolbox and some fun custom demi-aprons to carry everything – wire, pins, glue dots, safety pins, several clippers, scissors and floral tape, ribbon inthat day’s wedding colors and tons more!

What tool in your toolbox can’t you live without?
My newest obsession are glue dots!! but I’m also a floral tape fanatic – I tape much more than I wire.

Anything else you’d like to share with Flirty Fleurs followers?
I LOVE what I do. I followed my passion, and am rewarded every day. It can be insanely stressful, but when that bride gets tears in her eyes because I made her dream come true when she sees that reception room or her bouquet? Priceless.
