Your name: Matthew & Amanda Frankewicz
Your Business name: Alluring Blooms
Your Location: Madison, Wisconsin
How did you start your business?
Growing up in rural Wisconsin my mom and my aunts used to have a tradition to see who could find the first May flower. Some of my fondest memories as a child involve running through the woods on the hunt for these treasures! I’ve adored flowers for as long as I can remember. I was always the one bringing a floral arrangement to family gatherings. In 2009 I decided this love needed to be shared and started formal training. I earned a certificate in floral design. In early 2010 Alluring Blooms was born.
How many years have you been in business?
Two years. 2012 is our third “wedding season”.
What is your design aesthetic?
While I’ve had the pleasure of creating many different styles for clients, I personally prefer designs that are loose and natural feeling. I like studying the natural bends and curves in a stem and using those to my advantage.
What inspires you?
I’m inspired by so much. Nature, art, my husband, my family.
What are the trends, flowers & colors that are unique to your region?
I know it’s been said that the barn wedding trend is on its way out, but here in the Midwest it’s still extremely popular. We have a beautiful new barn venue opening only 6 miles from our studio this summer. I’m incorporating lots of soft muted colors and natural textures into these weddings.
Are you a retail shop, studio/warehouse or home based?
The majority of our work is done out of our quaint home studio.
Do you offer any services in addition to floral designs?
Yes. We have an extensive collection of rental items to enhance your wedding day.
What does your toolbox look like?
My tool box is a re-purposed tackle box and is neat and organized like the rest of my space. It contains all the necessities along with a little of the unexpected: floral snips, needle-nose pliers, ribbon scissors, floral wire, cling, clear tape, waterproof tape, stapler, zip ties, rubber bands, ribbons, fishing line, cold glue, pins, needle and thread, and lip gloss.
What tool in your toolbox can’t you live without?
My ARS brand pocket floral shear.
What’s your favorite flower?
I love ranunculus. When they’re fully open and so lovely looking it just makes my heart melt. My husband agreed to a freezing cold January wedding in Wisconsin so I’d be assured to have the green ranunculus I’d coveted. That’s love.
Anything else you’d like to share with Flirty Fleurs followers?
Trust your floral designer. We’re here to recommend what would look and work best for you. If you go into your floral consult with an open mind you’re much more likely to enjoy the experience!
