How did you start your business?
I began Trendee flowers as a hobby , creating arrangements for family and friends for various occasion .It was then mentioned to me ,” Just start your own floral designing business” . So I took the initiative in 2009 to start the official process of preparing to begin this new path of becoming a floral designer .
How many years have you been in business?
Trendee’s officially began in 2009, as a floral designing studio. Prior to that I had created arrangements as my hobby for about 3 yrs.. Till then Trendee’s was under wraps, as they say, and now is a full growing wedding /event / floral designing studio.
What is your design aesthetic?
I try to think of myself as a modern with a touch of traditional flare. I really appeal to the design with contemporary lines, with the pop of whimsical design. Everyone now and then, I go back and visit the traditional style .
What inspires you?
What doesn’t inspire me, is what I can say. So many visual aspects inspire me visually to create future designs. I also am inspired by senior floral designers, who have created extraordinary designs in the floral community. For example (Preston Bailey / Rene Van Remes / Collin H./ and the list goes on.
What are the trends, flowers & colors that are unique to your region?
It is hard to say what trends / florals / colors are unique in our region , since we have so many creative designers, and trends that create a vast ray of looks.
Are you a retail shop, studio/warehouse or home based?
I began my floral design studio from my home office, since my circumstances does not allow for a large shop space ( 5 girls ), I choose to stick a more comfortable space for our family . I am working on eventually investing in warehouse space or large workshop space , to be able to create & design for more larger events ( in the works ).
Do you offer any services in addition to floral designs?
Trendee’s has had the unique opportunity to offer not only florals , but as well as our Bridal Keepsake boxes ( brides to preserve their dress), our ever growing Custom Candy Stations ( a new and creative guest keepsake), and finally our Portrait Packages (Day of service/ Engament sessions / behind the scene’s / and so much more ).
What does your toolbox look like?
After every event / wedding/ ext.. I do my best to clean , de-clutter, and organize my tool box. I began with a miniature tool box , not knowing what tools I would need , now I carry a full on tool box on wheels , with a list of various items . From the basic knives / scissors / wrenches/ pliers / floral strippers/W-40 markers / towels/ Windex/Aspirin / First Aid kit/ floral food / tape/ and the list goes on .
What tool in your toolbox can’t you live without?
My handy dandy knife ( floral cutter ), plus a few more , but that is my main tool I use for EVERY occasion.
What’s your favorite flower?
Now that is a difficult question to ask a florist. Since we work with so may florals , and love to create beautiful creations using florals we love almost all of them. As I began in the biz , I appealed to Dahlia’s . I love the shape the curve of the petals , and the variety of sizes they came in.
Anything else you’d like to share with Flirty Fleurs followers?
I am a growing independent florist , who loves to create / design floral designs. With my ever growing chance to learn more , and teach what I have learned ( do’s & dont’s ) . Eventually I would love to be able to teach those what i have been able to learn as a florist .
