Fabulous Florist :: Entwined Design

Your name: Marci Gerlach
Your Business name: Entwined Design
Your Location: Orange County, CA

How did you start your business?
Originally graduating from College with a degree in Graphic Design I fell into a position in Human Resources for
close to 8 years at a high profile company in Southern California. After years of Hiring and Firing employees my creative side was dying to climb out. Instead of returning to Graphic Design where pen to paper was created, I had a desire to create from head to hands. I worked a Corporate HR career and after 6:00pm would work another job at a local floral studio from 6:30pm to 1:30am or 2:00am. I worked as a freelance designer for 4 years for 3 different Floral Design studios in CA. After creating some Weddings for friends and family, local business started contacting me for parties and charity events. Having a child and trendmous support from family and friends gave me that last push I needed to fully take on Weddings full time and I haven’t looked back since!

How long have you been in business?
I filled for our business license in 2008.

What is your design aesthetic?
I really try to create one of a kind Weddings and believe that like most things in life…..more is more! We
are fans of opulence and quite frankly edgy and bold designs. Whether size, color or pure floral attributes make a statement we believe that florals should be seen and adored.

What inspires you?
Everything!!! and I mean it. I have over 700 blogs ranging from Weddings sites, Interior Design firms, Photographers,
Landscape Architects and even Retail business signed into our Google Reader for daily inspiration. The vibrant colors of a dress someone is wearing at a restaurant or an ornate piece of furniture I see at an estate sale…those trigger ideas or inspiration for me.

What are the trends, flowers & colors that are unique to your region?
Southern California is really a melting pot of trends and styles. To generalize; there are traditionally two types of trends that occur here.
Lush, over the top designs are chosen or minimalist, “fresh from the garden” looks that are requested.

Are you a retail shop, studio/warehouse or home based?
We are a home based business with storage spaces.

Do you offer any services in addition to floral designs?
At this time we only supply Floral Design services but like most we get asked about everything from Linen choices to Lighting specifications.

What does your toolbox look like?
I am an organizer so everything has it’s place but I will say that it is bursting with everything and anything possible. Clippers, ribbon, pins, paddle wire, tape, push pins, levels, safety pins, floral tubes and aspirin.

What tool in your toolbox can’t you live without?
My extra padded knife, my girls try to steal it when I am not looking!

What’s your favorite flower?
Ranunculus…..what other flower creates a powerful punch in such a little compact bud. To be honest, I am only 5’2
and most would describe me as “spunky” so maybe I love them cause I feel like they are me in floral form ;o)

Anything else you’d like to share with Flirty Fleurs followers?
I truly love what I do and put all my heart into each and every wedding. Seeing a concept we have designed come to fruition is one of the most gratifying things we can think of.
